Nautilus has developed a reputation as one of the finest Marlborough producers and their chardonnay never fails to impress. Powerful aromas showing citrus and white peach with a touch of nutty complexes that follow through onto the palate with good depth and a long finish. A tight minerality gives this wine elegance and is truly one to impress.

Tasting Notes

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "Refined and stylish, the wine shows apricot, lemon pith, nougat, roasted cashew, and oatmeal characters on the nose, followed by a wonderfully weighted palate offering finesse and poise. Splendidly framed by creamy texture and beautifully infused acidity, finishing persistent, and engaging. At its best: now to 2031."
Ray Jordan writes"This is a rather delightful example of Marlborough Chardonnay. It’s somewhat understated but certainly displays some attractive characters. Opens with that typical stone fruit, nectarine-dominated aroma, with a little bit of roasted cashew, a little minerality, and just a trace of morning brioche. The palate is textured, but there’s a lip-smacking acidity which brings it to life. It was naturally fermented, and it displays layered complexity and excellent fruit concentration. The tight, fine minerality will ensure mid-term, medium-term cellaring."
Stuart Knox writes"Pale lemon hue. Grilled pineapple and struck match aromatics. Good weight and intensity of pineapple and peach fruits, layered with distinct struck flint minerality and a nougat depth. Goes long and stays focused by riding on a flush of fine crunchy acidity."
The winery writes "The 2023 Nautilus Chardonnay is straw coloured with a lifted nose of ripe nectarines, brioche, beeswax and toasted almonds with a hint of flinty complexity. The palate displays stone fruits, honeysuckle, and a nutty complexity from the natural ferments. The palate has good depth and concentration with a refreshingly long finish. This wine has a tight mineral structure and will develop a creamy texture as it matures."
