This is very classy barrique-fermented Chardonnay from lauded Martinborough producer, Margrain. Finely crafted and built for the long haul, the 2023 immediately impresses with generous peach, nectarine and sweet pineapple fruit, layered with subtle vanillin and nutty oak complexity.

The palate is concentrated, plush and creamy, with ripe stone fruit at its core and beautifully integrated French oak adding spice, texture and depth. Bright, energetic acidity provides the backbone, keeping all that richness wonderfully fresh and driving a long, persistent finish.

Fermented and aged for 12 months in French oak barriques, this is a serious, beautifully composed Martinborough Chardonnay that's drinking superbly now but has plenty more to give. Highly recommended.

The winemaker writes "Repeated warm rain and humid conditions required patience, daring and careful selected hand-picking to bring the best fruit possible into the winery in early to mid April. The resultant wine shows sweet pineapple and intense peach flavours, has generous mouthfeel and a firm backbone. Fermented and aged for 12 months in French oak barriques and allowed to go through full malolactic fermentation, with appropriate cellaring this wine should provide excellent drinking from 2024 to 2030."

As long as we receive your order before 2.00pm, in most cases your order will be delivered in one - two days if you live in mainland non-rural North Island. Friday orders will be delivered the following Monday. Rural or South Island deliveries take a day or two longer.
