This is soft, sensuous Hawke's Bay wine; the first syrah from the Helio 'passion project' conceived by Clearview winemaker Matt Kirby, his wife Sarah (ex Felton Road) and filmmaker Dave Nash. Gorgeously presented in wax sealed bottles and using high quality cork closures, this is a supple, flowing syrah with classic regional spiced plum and anise characters. Flowing, and oh so attractive, this 2022 release nails the more feminine style that we wish more Hawke's Bay producers would adopt. Lovely wine in the modern New Zealand Syrah context. Highly recommended.

Tasting Notes

The winery writes "In the glass Helio Syrah has a deep ruby core that transitions to an almost magenta, crimson edge. Beautiful to look at and delightful on the nose. It’s clean, light, and perfumed with violets and roses. A hint of mint lurks in the background, we relate this to the aroma from the Cyprus trees that are dotted around the vineyard. The palate is one of the most interesting parts of enjoying Helio Syrah, it adds to the nose rather than just copy pasting it. Mouth-watering high acid is met with peppery-gamey tannins that harmonise as a platform for the juicy bramble of black and dark red berry fruit with black forest chocolate and cherries. The peppered game continues on the long finish with a touch of smokiness, the taste of a perfectly glazed feast. Enjoy."

N.B. Deliveries to Great Barrier Island must be collected from the wharf (No deliveries to individual addresses)

As long as we receive your order before 2.00pm, in most cases your order will be delivered in one - two days if you live in mainland non-rural North Island. Friday orders will be delivered the following Monday. Rural or South Island deliveries take a day or two longer.
