Sophia sits in Craggy Range’s prestige collection and is firmly established among the top examples of Hawke’s Bay red wine. Vinted from a blend of carefully selected parcels of Merlot (62%), Cabernet Sauvignon (19%), Cabernet Franc (18%) and Petit Verdot (1%) from the Gimblett Gravels, it’s a beautifully composed Bordeaux-style red with serious pedigree.

The 2024 is complex, dark and wonderfully refined, with layers of ripe blackberry, black plum and cassis complemented by fragrant florals, savoury spice and subtle cedar. Merlot brings richness and generosity through the mid-palate, while the Cabernets provide structure, freshness and beautifully fine tannins. There’s impressive concentration here, but also the polish and restraint that separates truly great Hawke’s Bay reds from the pack.

Already enormously impressive, Sophia has the depth and structure to reward plenty of time in the cellar. A benchmark Gimblett Gravels red from one of New Zealand’s most celebrated producers and an exceptional addition to any serious collection. An exceptional wine.

Crafted at our Giants Estate Winery, Sophia embodies opulence and ripe flavours with a tannin structure supporting extensive ageing. With vines now over 25 years old, our distinct Merlot blocks contribute aromatic elegance and plush power. Evolving winemaking techniques yield depth and balance with silk-laden tannins accentuated by elevated perfume."
