The Gimblett Gravels wine growing region in Hawke's Bay has become synonymous with fine syrah production and Trinity Hill have long been at the forefront of the the region's development with this important variety. This five star release is very perfumed, supple and spicy; a very good example of the pretty / feminine style that the Hawke's Bay Syrah model is moving towards. Excellent.

Tasting Notes

Cameron Douglas MS writes "A vibrant deeply coloured appearance with a core of dark purple, dark red and pink rim. Aromas of spiced and toasted black fruits of currant and black cherry, a fine layer of forest herbs and violet. A bouquet with concentration and intrigue. On the palate a dry wine with core flavours of black currant and dark wild raspberry, spices and dried herb, gravels and stone with a saline quality. Tannins are firm and acidity sets in place the backbone of this expression. A delicious wine needing cellar time with best drinking from late 2028 through 2034+."

David Walker Bell, Wine Folio writes "A deep purple, ruby red in the glass. Blending savoury and sweet aromas, the perfume is inviting and complex. Giving a sense of walking down a country lane, the hedges drying from a shower, and smelling earth, with peat, fallen leaves and herbs mingled with plum, bramble and raspberry fruits. Well-structured but made to drink now as much as it is to be cellared. Dry, supple tannin meets crisp and juicy acidity in the palate, with good flow and direction. A touch of barrel spice – peppery and smoky, and a velvet texture round things out. There’s a reasonable length to the well-balanced finish too."
