Founded in 1985 in Friuli Venezia Giulia by Mauro Braidot, Mont’Albano was well ahead of the curve, embracing organic winegrowing long before it became fashionable. More than 40 years on, that experience shows. These are authentic, organically grown Italian wines made with real care and an eco-conscious approach, but without the premium price tag you might expect. Seriously attractive, full of character and ridiculously good value for money, the Mont’Albano range proves you don’t need to spend big to drink delicious Italian wine.

If you want to know why Nero d’Avola is Sicily’s signature red grape, this is a very good place to start. Mont’Albano’s 2024 is a cracking example of the variety, packed with ripe black cherry, juicy plum and dark berry fruit, with a touch of spice and savoury Mediterranean herbs adding plenty of interest. There’s lovely generosity and warmth through the palate, but enough freshness to keep it bright and beautifully drinkable, while soft tannins carry everything through to a smooth, satisfying finish. A delicious introduction to Nero d’Avola and seriously impressive drinking for the money. If you love rich, smooth reds with plenty of personality, put this firmly on your radar.

The winery writes "This wine is deep red in colour with violet hues. It presents scents that recall violets, dry plum and spices. Velvety on the palate with a good body and a spicy aftertaste. Ideal food pairings: beef, braised meat and aged cheeses."
