Founded in 1985 in Friuli Venezia Giulia by Mauro Braidot, Mont’Albano was well ahead of the curve, embracing organic winegrowing long before it became fashionable. More than 40 years on, that experience shows. These are authentic, organically grown Italian wines made with real care and an eco-conscious approach, but without the premium price tag you might expect. Seriously attractive, full of character and ridiculously good value for money, the Mont’Albano range proves you don’t need to spend big to drink delicious Italian wine.

Here the Montepulciano grape finds its natural home in Abruzzo on Italy's Adriatic coast. Deep ruby in the glass, it's generous and fruit-driven, with ripe plum, dark cherry and juicy berry flavours joined by a subtle floral lift and a touch of savoury spice. There's plenty of flavour, but nothing heavy-handed - silky tannins keep everything smooth and approachable before a long, nicely balanced finish.

This is classic Montepulciano territory: generous, comforting and ridiculously easy to like. Pizza, pasta, grilled meat or simply a big glass after work - at $19.99, it's an Italian red you'll be very happy to have in the rack.

Tasting Notes

The winery writes "Red in colour, intense fruity notes with delicate flowers hint. Full flavoured, with supple tannins. On the palate it is well structured with a persistent finish. Ideal food pairing: cured meats, flavourful first courses, lean meats and fresh cheeses."
