Tolpuddle has cemented its place among the Southern Hemisphere’s most coveted Pinot Noirs, with a remarkable run of vintages establishing this tiny Tasmanian vineyard as one of the great names of modern Australian wine. The 2025 Tolpuddle Pinot Noir continues that story in seriously impressive fashion – refined, wonderfully detailed and unmistakably cool-climate.

Planted in Tasmania’s Coal River Valley in 1988, Tolpuddle is a single vineyard shaped by a cool, dry climate and the region’s distinctive soils. That combination gives the wines their signature tension and aromatic intensity, and the 2025 Pinot Noir captures it beautifully. There’s plenty of flavour here, but never at the expense of finesse.

Fragrant red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry sit alongside florals, fine spice and subtle savoury complexity. The palate is silky and beautifully layered, with pristine red fruit flowing through fine, persistent tannins and vibrant acidity. Mineral drive keeps everything taut and focused, while the fruit builds through the palate into a long, precise and beautifully composed finish.

What makes Tolpuddle so compelling is the way it combines immediate drinking pleasure with genuine fine-wine structure. There’s fragrance, freshness and gorgeous fruit to enjoy now, but also the balance, tannin and depth to reward time in the cellar. Tolpuddle Pinot Noir 2025 is another seriously classy release from one of Australia’s benchmark cool-climate vineyards – and a bottle that belongs on the radar of anyone who loves great Pinot Noir.

Tasting Notes

Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion writes "This is a wonderful expressive pinot noir from one of Tasmania's finest sites. 50% whole bunches in '25, and those filigreed amaro and dried spice elements are woven beautifully into the wine. The fruit base is pure dark cherry, damson plum and wild strawberry fruits, with souk-like spice, dried meats. Chinese barbecue shop, shiitake broth, dried citrus rind, meadow flowers and layers of spice and rocky nuance. It's an immediately attractive wine, with blossoming flavours kept in check by fine, sinewy tannins, taut, mineral-laden acidity and a long draw of flavour on the finish, the wine sailing gracefully and true throughout."

Campbell Mattinson writes "The ascension of Tolpuddle Pinot Noir continues at speed. This is another superb release; it's structured, it's balanced, it's lengthy and yet – once it has all the credentials of quality covered – it's also generous, and indeed delicious. This is a Pinot Noir that you want to both stand and admire, and sink into. Plush cherry-plum flavours meet sweet spice, roasted nuts, undergrowth and roses. You can't help but be impressed; for flavour, feel and length, this wine has all the angles covered."

The winery writes "Darker fruit notes are layered with baking spice and star anise, unfolding seamlessly across the plush mid-palate. Violets add a lifted, aromatic note, balancing the wine’s depth and density. Fine tannins interwoven with savoury spice add structure and support. The finish is long and composed, with lingering dark spice."
