On March 1 Te Mata Estate will release a new vintage of Coleraine. This is always the most important event on the New Zealand wine calendar and the winery team has crafted another release that has captured the imagination of the international wine press. 

The vintage is characterised by a very high cabernet sauvignon percentage (80%). The high cabernet component has delivered a finely structured, supple, flowing dry wine that harks back to the Coleraines of old. Please read the tasting notes below for more information on this storied release.

Tasting Notes

The 2023 vintage is 80% cabernet sauvignon, 15% merlot and 5% cabernet franc.
The winery writes"A regal brilliant magenta hue, with blackcurrant and brooding complexity on an immensely concentrated palate. Raspberry, white flowers, soy, and espresso, arise on driftwood smoke, creating a fresh, elevated, coastal sensation, in an intense, tannin-rich, sculptured wine that's captivating and irresistibly endless."

The elevation in all aspects of this wine from the already tremendously impressive Awatea is significant.
