Vandal NATURAL Pet Bat 2023

Price: $36.99

Over a few beers three of Marlborough's biggest winemakers decided that wanted a change from the norm. They decided to team up for a side project that would let them branch out into the natural wine world. Unfortunately they have decided to remain anonymous - the threat of the general pubic working out how cool natural wine can be was just too high.

A mix of albarino, tempranillo, glera, syrah, chardonnay and pinot noir, Pet Bat is fermented naturally and bottled unfiltered to capture all the raw, untamed energy of the vineyard. It carries a gentle off-dry finish (about 10 g/L residual sugar) that rounds its bright acidity with a hint of fruit sweetness, making it approachable and even more drinkable.

This is a natural wine - don't be worried if there is a bit of sediment at the bottom or if it's bit cloudy, that's how it's supposed to be!

Tasting Notes

Fruit explosion of apples and limes. Dry, zesty and delicious!
David Walker Bell, WineFolio writes "A “Pét-Nat”(short for Pétillant Naturel) sparkling wine, made with a single fermentation and bottled before that primary ferment has finished. Hand-picked Muscat and Chardonnay (50% of each) was sourced from a 30 year old single vineyard in the Southern Valleys of Marlborough. An effervescent fizz starts off firmly, but dies down quite quickly. Aromas of peach, lemon, guava and melon, with a breadcrumb note and a little chalky minerality on the nose. Bursting with prickly acidity, the fruit sits up and has vibrant energy, without too much depth or complexity. A phenolic grip is there, adding texture and roundness to the clean, zippy palate. The finish is short and zesty, but mouth-watering."
