B&G Thomas Barton Reserve St Emillion 2023

Price: $37.99

93/100 'Excellent' | Cameron Douglas MS

The B&G Thomas Barton Réserve Saint-Émilion 2023 is a tribute to one of Bordeaux’s original pioneers. In 1725, Thomas Barton left Ireland for Bordeaux, quickly establishing himself as one of the region’s most influential wine merchants. His name became synonymous with quality, trust, and an uncompromising eye for great wine.

Crafted from 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc, and sourced from Bordeaux's celebrated Right Bank, this Saint-Émilion captures the spirit of that heritage. Ripe plum and dark berry fruit lead the way, layered with subtle spice and refined oak. Bright acidity brings freshness and lift, while a voluptuous, silky palate carries through to a long, polished finish.

Tasting Notes

Cameron Douglas MS writes "Youthful purples and ruby hues lead to a bouquet of violets and dark berries, blackberry then Doris plums, a fine layer of dried herbs then a gentle touch of barrel with spices of powdered clove and vanilla. A soft and elegant bouquet overall. Dry, fruity, some tautness and softness as the wine begins to coat the palate. Tannins and acidity show a chalky texture with a layer of freshness then fruit flavours of dark berries plums follow. Oak once again has a lighter touch layering in complexity and whisper of barrel smoke. Well made with a decent finish. Best drinking from day of purchase through 2032."
The winery writes "Deep red colour with ruby highlights. Expressive nose full of red berry aromas (strawberry, raspberry) as well as cocoa notes when agitated. Harmonious, with ripe fruit flavours (blackberry jam) and rich in soft tannins. Long and smooth finish."
