Shiraz is an extremely user-friendly wine, with many budget-savvy offerings on the market today.
Originally planted as Syrah in the Rhone Valley in France, the grape was then planted in Australia where it took on a life of its own as Shiraz. Shiraz grows best in moderate to hot climates which is why it thrives in Australia. Barossa in Southern Australia is home to some of the oldest shiraz vines in the world and the region is famous for producing rich, full-bodied shiraz.
Because of the robust flavours of Shiraz, it tends to pair well with hearty, full-flavoured foods such as grilled lamb, beef, and other types of braised or roasted meats. It’s also a great match with more casual meals, such as BBQ ribs and burgers.
