Also known as petite sirah, durif has its spiritual home in France where it was primarily used as a blender to flesh out red wines. Nowadays, it has garnered a large following for its deep colour and full-bodied nature. That's what's going on here. Carpone Durif 2020 displays complex flavours of plums and chocolate, and partial aging in American oak gives the wine a lovely vanillin finish. It's bold, glossy and loaded with spice - one of those perfect anytime reds if you're looking for something rewarding but don't want to go down the traditional cabernet or shiraz path. Superb.
