What a glorious example of modern Hawke's Bay Chardonnay this is. Vinted in the classic Hawke's Bay style, Villa Maria Reserve Chardonnay is full bodied, powerful and generously weighted. Expect aromas of ripe stone fruit, citrus flowers, grilled nuts followed by excellent structure and palate lift. The influence of barrel fermentation has provided flinty complexity and the finish is driven by beautifully pitched acidity. Simply sublime.
Every vintage always cleans up at the awards and this 2021 is clearly no exception. The list of accolades as long as your arm tells you everything you need to know here. This is serious wine. Cellar this wine with confidence for 5-8 years to see further complexity evolve.

Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "Gorgeously elegant and complex, the wine shows apricot, rockmelon, vanillin oak and brioche characters on the nose, followed by a wonderfully weighted palate displaying excellent structure and persistency. It's refined and beautifully layered with textured mouthfeel, finishing impressively long and satisfying."
Bob Campbell MW writes "Harmonious wine that achieves an enviable balance between alcohol sweetness, sour acidity and subtle tannic bitterness. The net effect makes the wine come alive. Vibrant chardonnay with high energy."
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Captivating aromas of roasted and fresh peaches, baked grapefruit and custard qualities, toasty barrel spices and smoke. Delicious on the palate with weight and textures in harmony embellished by yellow stone fruits and citrus flavours that mirror the bouquet. Balanced lengthy finish, ideal drinking on its own and well suited to food."
Cuisine Magazine writes "Aromas of clean, pure stone fruits stream from the glass and through to the well- structured palate where the flavours of sweet peaches, grilled hazelnuts and cream sit nicely against well-handled oak. This is a fruit-forward expression displaying a fine acid line and a long, satisfying finish."
The winery writes "Fragrant citrus, complex flint and nut aromas combine with a distinctive core of mineral, lemon and mealy characters to form a seamless palate. Fine-grained French oak and refined acidity create a tightly woven palate with understated concentration and length."
