Fate and COVID-19 played a hand in bringing three young Hawke's Bay women together, all with an extensive wine background, to create Three Fates. The passion project conceived by Holly Girven Russell, Hester Nesbitt and Casey Motley leads with one simple mantra - to create wines that they would want to drink. As Stephen Wong MW says, since release, Three Fates has always been a little left of centre, like a remastered and more relevant remix of well-known tunes, and definitely one to watch.
This is Papa G & The Fates: a collaboration between Three Fates and luminary winemaker Gordon Russell. This chenin blanc comes from the Two Terraces Vineyard in the Mangatahi Terraces of Hawke's Bay. It's delightfully rich and bold, with flavours of pineapple, passionfruit and honey exploding in the glass. Handpicked, foot stomped, and macerated overnight, the fruit was pressed to a mix of tank and an old 500L oak puncheon, letting nature take the lead. Simply superb.

The winery writes "Rich, full-bodied, and textured, this wine is packed with bold flavours of pineapple, passionfruit, honey, chamomile and grapefruit pith, with a layer of quince rounding it out. The 2024 vintage - one of the best in years - brings intensity and balance, with the skins adding a lovely mouthfeel and depth. It's a chenin blanc that's both vibrant and complex, with a nod to the wines of Vouvray."
