93/100 | Stephen Wong MW, The Real Review
Fate and COVID-19 played a hand in bringing three young Hawke's Bay women together, all with an extensive wine background, to create Three Fates. The passion project conceived by Holly Girven Russell, Hester Nesbitt and Casey Motley leads with one simple mantra - to create wines that they would want to drink. As Stephen Wong MW says, since release, Three Fates has always been a little left of centre, like a remastered and more relevant remix of well-known tunes, and definitely one to watch.
This is their fourth release of arneis since their inception in 2020 and arguably the best vintage to date! Made predominantly from grapes grown in the Noetzli family vineyard in Maraekakaho, this arneis is a great food wine showing fragrant notes of pear, lemon and a hint of cinnamon on the nose. In the glass, intense floral flavours emerge with a lively and balanced finish. So good.

The winery writes "Fruit-forward, the ever unsuspecting arneis hits you with the complexity. At first approach you're met with fragrant pear, lemon, and a surprising hit of cinnamon but returning to the glass will unveil the intensely floral flavours of Turkish Delight and a subtle hint of fennel seed. Well-balanced acidity keeps the palate lively and readies this to be a great food pairing wine."
Stephen Wong MW writes "Sweetly perfumed notes of almond and red apple slowly build on the distinctly stony nose. Grainy, chewy tannins rise above the soft acidity on the palate, emphasising the mineral earthiness. Vinous rather than fruity, this tastes more European than it does New Zealand with a subtly persistent savoury, dry finish built on phenolics."
