95/100 'Outstanding' | Cameron Douglas MS
94/100 | Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review
FIVE STARS 93/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Toru (translating to 'three' in Maori) is a field blend of gewurztraminer, riesling and pinot gris from the Te Whare Ra Home Block vineyard in Marlborough. First vinted in 2006, this was one of the first blends of its kind on the Kiwi market and it has evolved to become one of Te Whare Ra's flagship wines.
Their aim is to create a wine that references the distinctive styles of each of the three varietals, while creating an interesting, unique wine in its own right. The fruit is given every attention in the winery and is co-fermented to allow the varietals to meld and integrate. The resulting wine is multi-layered and textural with stone fruit and citrus flavours and a hint of spiciness. A stunning release.

Vinted from a blend of 52% Gewurztraminer, 25% Riesling and 23% Pinot Gris.
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Made with Gewurztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Gris this is a fantstic expression with seductive aromas of white fleshed fruits and aromatic spices, a sliky mouthfeel and fruit flavours that caress the palate. Acidity highlights the lime and lemon qualities of the Riesling and a soft silky texure mid-palate is accentuated by the a whisper of warming alcohol. Plush, fresh and delicious. Best drinking from 2023 through 2027."
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "Gorgeously fruited and enticing with nectarine, rockmelon, lychee and lemon/lime nuances, it's juicy and beautifully rounded in the mouth delivering terrific fruit weight and silky flow. Well framed by refreshing acidity, offering excellent drinking."
The winery writes "This 2022 Toru has an intriguing nose with notes of mango, fresh citrus, white florals and exotic spices. These lead into a multi-layered palate with flavours of mango, citrus, red apple and lychee with a lingering spiciness. The palate has excellent fruit concentration and weight with lovely creamy texture, plus a mineral edge which gives it great length of flavour."
