90/100 'Premium' | Cameron Douglas MS
First Flight may be Squawking Magpie's entry level range, but they have knocked value out of the park with this excellent 2022 release. This delicious chardonnay is medium-bodied with a classically creamy palate. There are plenty of tropical fruit flavours overlaying a core of stonefruits - with oak spice adding an extra dimension. The finish is long and lingering. Very good buying here from this elegant, 'one size fits all' release.

Cameron Douglas MS writes "Aromas and flavours of fresh peach and apple, there’s a lick of fresh grapefruit then flavours of wood spices, clove then nut and a moment of butter. Lighter weighted wine with a satin texture, flavours from the bouquet mingle with acidity and coat the palate nicely."
The winery writes "This Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay is sophisticated and complex. It is bursting with vibrant stonefruit characters and a hint of zingy citrus with lively oak influence. Great paired with friends!"
