93/100 'Excellent' | Cameron Douglas MS
90/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
Owner of Odyssey Wines, Rebecca Salmond, has an impressive track-record for making superb wines. Having undergone partial malolactic fermentation with only subtle adjustments to the wine, this single vineyard chardonnay shows creamy butterscotch characters with immense complexity and a bright, approachable colour. The classic regional peach and stone fruit flavours of Gisborne Chardonnay are always front and centre and supported on the palate with a lightly creamy texture and hints of oak spice. While this is perfect to drink now, this wine can easily cellar for up to five years down the road.

Cameron Douglas MS writes "Deep straw hues and a very bright appearance lead to a bouquet ripe orchard stone-fruits, citrus and apple with a tropical fruit and gentle oak spice suggestion. On the palate a satin-cream textures touches first then flavours of yellow and white peach, sweet grapefruit and apple then flavours of baking spice and a touch of Brazil-nut butter. Acidity, gently warming alcohol and youthful freshness set the structure in place with fruit and spice flavours that repeat across the palate. Balanced and well made with a even persistent finish."
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit writes "Charming and inviting, the bouquet shows ripe stone fruit, rockmelon, orange peel and nougat notes, leading to a succulent palate offering supple mouthfeel backed by mellow acidity, offering delightful drinking."
The winery writes "This brightly coloured wine has nuances of citrus, ripe peach and melon, with hints of butterscotch and oak. The lees contact and partial malolactic fermentation have added fullness and texture to this approachable and food friendly wine."
