93/100 | Cameron Douglas MS
Huia are a boutique Marlborough producer with a focus on creating organic, biodynamic wines and taking a natural approach to winemaking.
Their 2017 release is a study in elegant Marlborough Pinot Noir. A core of cherry and red fruit notes is supported by oak spice and delicate tannins, as a result of almost 2 years spent in oak. It's drinking well now but will unfold with a few years in the cellar.

The winery writes "On the nose the Huia Pinot Noir shows notes of spice, violets and dark cherry. The palate is rich and full with plum and dark cherry alongside hints of spice and savoury notes."
Cameron Douglas MS writes "Myriad aromas of mineral and varietal fruit scents, there's a core of flowers and oak, soil and fruit, an integrated oak and savoury spice complexity then aromas of cherry and red apple, plum and red currant. Salivating and youthful on the palate with flavours of dried herb then red currant, fine oak spices then a savoury mineral quality. Fine tannins and decent acid line keep add texture and mouthfeel, but also a foundation of texture and structure. Well made, youthful still. Best drinking from 2022 through 2028+."
