Esk Valley’s exciting Artisanal range allows celebrated winemaker Gordon Russell to make interesting, small batch wines that indulge his personal preferences, rather than being driven by the market dynamics of being part of the wider Villa Maria group of companies.
Vinted from 43% malbec, 40% merlot and 17% cabernet sauvignon, this is deep red in colour and bursting with dark fruit flavours that are characteristic of the Gimblett Gravels region. It's soft, supple and has a silky smooth finish. Sensational wine from Gordon and the Esk Valley team, with exceptional cellar potential.

Tasting Notes
Emma Jenkins, Decanter writes "Rich in brambly berries and cassis, iodine and violets, sandalwood and cigar box. Youthful and vibrant with an invitingly supple palate, fine tannins and a juicy, clean and bright finish. Not as intense or complex as some, but at a fraction of the price, this will make very nice drinking indeed while others mature."
Huon Hooke writes "Deep and bright purple red colour; very attractive sweet blackberry/cassis aromas, with a background of dusty oak and the merest hint of tomato bush. Big, bold and profound in flavour, with great length of carry and ample fine-grained, powdery tannins providing firm but not tough backbone, lovely poise and finish. Great structure and will age superbly."
The winery writes "This is a very deeply coloured wine as you would expect from a Malbec based wine. It displays rich plummy, jammy Gimblett Gravels fruit on the nose with hints of tobacco and dried herbs. On the palate it is a medley of power and concentration from Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon allied with softer Merlot tannins. This is a full bodied and complex wine, and an ideal accompaniment to red meat dishes."
