SMALL-BATCH WINEMAKING AT ITS BEST
de la terre is the winemaking venture of Tony and Kaye Prichard who have a winery, cellar door and cafe complex on the Taihape Road out of Hastings. 'de la terre' means 'of the earth' and refers to the vineyards soils as well as the earth brick construction of their buildings. They focus on creating small parcels of unique, elegant wines and grow a number of interesting varietals that are seldom seen in NZ.
Their 2023 barrique fermented chardonnay shows classic stonefruit and citrus flavours, beautifully balanced with classic barrel ferment characters of spicy oak and vanilla. Well-handled acidity keeps fruit sweetness in check and creates a long, fresh finish.

Phil Parker writes "Tony Prichard was previously winemaker at Church Road and now he and his wife Kaye have their own winery in the limestone terraces of Hawke's Bay. Crisp, dry and understated, this is a very elegant chardonnay with lime citrus, nectarine, crisp minerality and a yeasty tang. Match with oysters or a creamy pasta dish."
