Sophia is Craggy's flagship merlot dominant blend; a refined and elegant hand-crafted wine with a huge reputation both within New Zealand and abroad. 2021 was an excellent vintage in the Gimblett Gravels and this is a vibrant expression with plum and cassis flavours underpinned with fine oak and a perfectly handled line of fresh acidity. Sophia embodies opulence and ripe flavours with a tannins structure supporting extensive aging. Truly sublime.

The winery writes "Deep, dark garnet red. Intensely aromatic, with notes of mulberry, blackcurrant, and mocha. Gorgeous and distinctly open. It is very approachable, with darker cherries, cinnamon, and chocolate flavours flowing seamlessly through the palate. It is effortlessly pure, allowing immediate enjoyment, although it’s evident the pedigree of this site is built for time."
