FIVE STARS 94/100 | Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
94/100 'Excellent' | Cameron Douglas MS
Here's something truly exciting for fans of premium, barrel-fermented Hawke's Bay Chardonnay. Askerne's all-conquering 2022 Reserve Chardonnay cut a track through the award rounds, and we're sure this new vintage will soon follow suit. This is magical wine; an opulent weighty style with punchy flavours, plenty of spicy oak and lots going on in the glass. Master Sommelier Cameron Douglas has given it an 'excellent' rating, and he's right on the money. It comes very, repeat very highly recommended.

Cameron Douglas MS writes "A distinctive bouquet with scents of apple and apricot, a mix of fruit and barrel spices, peach, and a definitive fine lees quality adding breadth and complexity. A silky-cream texture touches the palate first then barrel and fruit spices follow with vanilla and a touch of cinnamon. As the wine opens out in the glass the flavours of peach and quince, apple and grapefruit emerge."
The winery writes "Intense aromas of stone fruit and ripe citrus, layered with scented floral spice, vanillan sweetness and limey mineral notes. The palate is full and textural, but tight and structured with rich oak spice, bright and concentrated citrus flavours and a juicy acidity that providing wonderful length."
