FIVE STARS | Yvonne Lorkin
94/100 'Excellent' | Cameron Douglas MS
94/100 | Jamie Goode, Wine Anorak
93/100 | Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review
Akitu Wines benefit greatly from the glorious southern sunshine, high alpine atmosphere and skillful winemaking. A2 Pinot Noir is a seriously easy drinking, quality Central Otago Pinot but with a serious side. There's plenty of opulent fruit density, rich and generous dark fruit flavours leading to an expansive and plush palate-feel. Finishes impressively long with silky tannins and balance. Pairs perfectly with peking duck.

Cameron Douglas MS writes "A bouquet loaded with personality and pinosity. Aromas of minerality and dried herb then a core of red berry fruits from red currant to wild raspberry then cherry and red apple. Layers of older wood add complexity and depth. Taut, salivating fruity and dry on the palate. Firm tannins and acidity are abundant, adding in texture and mouthfeel as well as foundation. Fruit flavours reflect the bouquet. A youthful and engaging wine with energy and charm reflecting place and time."
Bob Campbell MW writes "Delicately-scented pinot noir with floral, violet, red rose, spice, anise, thyme, cherry and subtle spicy oak. Fine tannins form a gently peppery backbone and extend the already lengthy finish. An intruiging wine with supple and seductive texture."
The winery writes "Dark garnet with a crimson glow, it's almost opaque at the centre of the glass. The aroma opens with spicy dark cherry and a hint of fresh cinnamon over thyme and a wonderful waft of liquorice. There is a lift of whole bunchy graphite on the nose with depth coming from dark rose petal and a hint of violets. Excellent depth and complexity while showing opulent fruit density."
